About Banten

Getting Around

A major highway connecting Jakarta and Merak runs along the northern coast, divided into sections: Jakarta - Tangerang - Merak, part of the Trans-Java toll road. You can also reach Banten by car or motorcycle through the Jakarta-Merak road. There are also bus terminals, such as Poris Plawad, Labuan, Cikokol and Serang. Train routes integrated until Jakarta, Bekasi and Bogor. Banten also can be approached from the other islands by sea via the port of Merak. The province has a busy ferry terminal to Lampung on the island of Sumatra. The only commercial airport in the province is the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The airport is located in the city of Tangerang. The distance between the airport to Tangerang City downtown is around 30 minutes, depending on the traffic, especially during rush hours. Please beware that there are number of damage roads and potholes due to large heavy trucks and big buses to and from the port of Merak.

  • Leave early in the morning, especially on weekends to avoid congestion on the road
  • Use Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) car or family car because there are some roads that are not suitable for small city car. Learn your travel route.

  • Lodgings and hotels are available in Banten. On a long weekend or a national holiday, you should book a place to stay before because almost all inns would be fully booked, including home stays.
