3D2N Baliem Valley : Wamena - Jayapura Departure

Itinerary :

Day 1: Flight To Wamena, Mummy, Mock Battle/Traditional Dance, Cave (-/L/-)

In the morning arrive in Jayapura, meet us and continue the flight depart at 10:20 or 12:30 to Wamena. (Return flight from Jayapura to Wamena is available with additional cost, baggage allowed for these flight is 10kg only per passenger, as you can leave your unnecessary baggage in Jayapura with us before leaving - please note: the flights are delayed very often).

Upon arrival at Wamena airport transfer to Baliem Pilamo Hotel. We drive up to Jiwika in the central Baliem Valley. A special welcome will be given to you upon your arrival in the Village; the tribe member will assemble wearing their best outfit to show their appreciation. The Tribe chief will stand on a Traditional Observation and give the order to his people to celebrate.

A special "Mock Battle" is one of the most interesting exhibitions you will see on traveling to Papua. Photographer and moviemakers has said that this unique event cannot be described by words alone, you have to see it with your own eyes.

Lunch box will be served in the villages. In Sumpaima village we will see a very old mummy of the famous Dugum clan is proudly presented for your viewing. In the vicinity we will see more picturesque hamlets. Everywhere the friendly natives offer their arts and crafts, weapons and curiosities for our inspection. Few kilometers from Kurulu we will visit the famous Kontilola Cave. A section of this huge cave is partially broken down, a condition that contributes to lush vegetation. In the afternoon drive back to the Hotel. Lunch box is provided, dinner will be on your own account. 

Day 2: Easy Trekking South Baliem Gorge (B/L/-)

In the morning we drive to the southern Baliem Valley. The road ends in a village called Sogokmo, about 3 km before Kurima. Our walking tour along the powerful Baliem River begins here. First a suspension bridge has to be crossed. After that the tour goes on through Dani settlements with terraced fields and wild groves of sugar cane. All the time we have a wonderful view over the river and the narrow valley.

In the early afternoon we reach the church of Seinma where we will have our lunch surrounded by beautiful landscape. Before we reach Kurima another suspension bridge has to be crossed. This trek offers unique photo opportunities and our car will take us return to the Hotel in the late afternoon. 

If this trek is still hard, you may skip it and turn to different side of Sogokmo or Yetni area. Lunch in Box is provided and Accommodation at hotel, dinner will be on your account. (Easy walk in approx 3-4 hours)

Day 3: Wamena - Jayapura Departure (-/-/-)

the flight very early in the morning, without any breakfast, transfer at 05:00 am to airport for your flight to  Jayapura at schedule at 06:15 am. By direct flight for Sorong, Makasar, Jakarta or Denpasar.

The temperature can reach 10-15 degrees celcius at night. The Baliem Valley Festival was originally a tribal war between Dani, Lani, and the Yali Tribe as a symbol of fertility and prosperity.
